National car rental company Jojo Siwa Car was forced to shut down its operations after the owner of the car that was involved in a fatal accident in California was charged with driving under the influence.
The victim’s family says the 26-year-old woman died in the crash, and the state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) says she was driving under a blood alcohol level of 0.17.
Jojo SiWA Car is one of several car rental companies across the US to be affected by the recent spate of fatal accidents.
In California, the driver of a car that struck and killed a woman at a red light last month was arrested for DUI.
The man was charged and released from jail on bail after the California State Police (CSM) found he was under the legal limit.
The state’s DMV says the driver’s blood alcohol concentration was found to be 0.08, three times the legal driving limit.
Jojosis Car is owned by local businessman, David and Jojo Biel.
JoJo Biel, owner of Jojo Sia Car, was arrested in January for DUI in California.
The victim’s daughter posted a photo of her mother on Instagram after she died, captioning the photo: My mom passed away and I feel like I need to be the one to say sorry for not being there to help her family when she needed it most.
The family of the victim’s sister posted a post on Facebook saying: I just want my family to know how much I love them and that I have no issues with my family and I do not condone anything that I do.
Joi Biel’s daughter was one of the first people to report the accident, saying she had been driving the same car since she was 12.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said Jojos Car was shut down for a few hours after a report of a hit and run.
Joel Biel is being held without bail in Orange County Jail on suspicion of DUI manslaughter, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana, the California Department of Justice said.
A GoFundMe account set up for Jojoses sister, who was in the car at the time of the accident was set up by a GoFundme user, which said the car was stolen from Jojo’s home.
She said: I hope everyone who knows Jojo can help us to find her.
She has a few options to get her car back.
Jojas sister is going to have to pay for her car.
The CHP did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
